A Message From Pastor Tim Schane
A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL CALLED ''HARVARD''
On the fourth of July, I was thinking about Independence Day and what it means. It caused me to think about where we have come from.
Harvard College was founded in 1638 by strict Puritans for the purpose of training missionaries for the gospel. But, by the mid-19th century, the last embers of spirituality were quickly disappearing. Yale University was founded in 1701 and from the beginning, its president taught students on subjects such as "The Bible is the Word of God." But like Harvard, Yale's evangelical stand soon disappeared. They all were founded for one purpose, the glory of God, and yet they all ended up completely forgetting the purpose for which they were founded. The thing is ...it happens all the time, not just to universities, but to believers as well. Maybe you started out pure and focused and full of zeal to serve the Lord. But you've gotten distracted and sidetracked and caught up in money or success or ministry or a thousand other things and forgotten the very purpose for which you exist. Come back to God. Re-consecrate your heart, mind, soul, and strength to knowing and serving the Lord. Come back to your first call-and don't end up like Harvard.
Be blessed, Pastor Schane.
